How To Choose Wear-Resistant Ceramic Materials In Industrial Wear-Resistant Industry
Release time:
2024-08-24
1. Alumina ceramics (Al2O3)
Main features: Alumina ceramics use alumina as the main raw material, have extremely high hardness (Rockwell hardness can reach HRA80-90), and have extremely strong wear resistance, second only to diamond. In addition, it also has good corrosion resistance, high temperature resistance (melting point up to 2054℃) and chemical stability. The disadvantages are low toughness, brittleness, and poor impact resistance.
Application areas: Due to the excellent performance of alumina ceramics, it is widely used in electronics, electricity, chemical industry, machinery and other fields, especially in industrial equipment that requires high wear resistance and high temperature resistance, such as wear-resistant parts, seals, insulating parts, etc.
2. Silicon nitride ceramics (Si3N4)
Main features: Silicon nitride ceramics use silicon nitride as the main raw material, and have excellent wear resistance, corrosion resistance and high temperature resistance. Its hardness is also quite high, and it can withstand high-speed friction and impact. In addition, silicon nitride ceramics also have good thermal stability and chemical stability. The disadvantages are low toughness, difficulty in processing, and high production cost.
Application fields: Silicon nitride ceramics are widely used in harsh environments such as high temperature, high pressure, and strong corrosion, such as engine parts, bearings, and sealing rings.
3. Silicon carbide ceramics (SiC)
Main features: Silicon carbide ceramics use silicon carbide as the main raw material, and have extremely high hardness and wear resistance (Rockwell hardness can reach HRA90 or above), as well as excellent high temperature resistance (can withstand extremely high temperatures) and corrosion resistance. Silicon carbide ceramics also have good thermal stability and mechanical strength. The disadvantages are high cost, difficulty in manufacturing, fragility, poor machinability, large brittleness, and uneven structure.
Application fields: Silicon carbide ceramics are widely used in industrial equipment in harsh environments such as high temperature, high pressure, and strong corrosion, such as wear-resistant parts and cutting tools in the petroleum, chemical, and metallurgical industries.
4. Zirconia ceramics (ZrO2)
Main features: Zirconia ceramics use zirconium oxide as the main raw material, and have extremely high crack propagation resistance and toughness. At the same time, it also has excellent wear resistance, corrosion resistance, and high temperature resistance. The thermal expansion coefficient of zirconia ceramics is similar to that of steel, so it can maintain stable performance in environments with large temperature changes. The disadvantages are brittleness, poor thermal stability, poor water resistance, and high cost.
Application areas: Zirconia ceramics are widely used in industrial equipment that needs to withstand high impact and wear due to their high toughness and high wear resistance, such as metallized ceramics, welding auxiliary materials, insulating rings, etc.
In the use of our specific wear-resistant materials, due to the different complex working conditions we face, when we choose wear-resistant materials, we will choose composite materials, such as ceramics + rubber, ceramics + rubber + steel plates, etc., in different combinations to meet the different needs of customers.
